DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe Corporate Legal & Governance Department at Channel 4 is responsible for advising on the legal aspects of all non-programme related matters to include: (i) negotiating and contracting deals for all non-programme related areas (other than Commissioning and Acquisitions) including Ad Sales, Corporate, Commercial & Business Development, IT, Procurement, Corporate Services, Consumer Insight, 4creative and Strategy; and (ii) advising on regulatory matters including Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Channel 4’s statutory requirements. The department also carries out the Corporation Secretarial function.
The Corporate Legal & Governance Department comprises 10 lawyers together with secretariat and admin team support.
JOB PURPOSEThe role is a paralegal within the Corporate Legal & Governance team, reporting to the Controller of Corporate Legal & Governance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProviding general legal support across the team working principally on commercial contracts but able to assist on a wide variety of legal matters including general commercial contractual arrangements, advertising sales and regulatory.
Types of work will include:
- Conducting due diligence in relation to our corporate investment activity.
- Assisting in the drafting and negotiation of corporate documentation.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts across a wide range of areas including technology, consumer insight, 4creative, procurement and distribution.
- Minute taking at board and other meetings.
- Assisting with updating of template documentation.
- Negotiating and reviewing non-disclosure agreements.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLSTechnical & Professional Skills
- Ability to draft and review a wide variety of commercial contracts with negotiated changes and an understanding of corporate matters.
- Ability to negotiate legal and commercial issues arising from contracts.
- Ambition to increase corporate and commercial knowledge and skills.
- Excellent organisational, communication and telephone skills.
- Ability to check and proof-read work quickly and accurately.
- Paralegals must be either part-qualified, have or be in legal training, or have a substantial quantity of relevant legal and contractual experience.
