Public Sector & Professional Regulatory Lawyer

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Due to continued success and ambitious growth plans, there is now a requirement for an experienced Lawyer (5 PQE+) to join our Dublin Regulatory practice.

This represents a unique opportunity, with clear progression prospects, for an established Lawyer to play a key role in driving the growth of the Professional and Public Sector Regulatory practice in Ireland. This role will focus on a mixture of contentious and non-contentious regulatory work with both private sector entities and regulators in Ireland, including:

  • Advising professional regulators in relation to all aspects of their functions, with a specific focus on the fitness to practise inquiry process;
  • Acting as legal assessor to a professional regulator in the performance of its functions;
  • Advising on professional regulatory investigations and complex issues concerning professional regulation;
  • Preparing draft secondary legislation on complex areas of professional regulatory law;
  • Advising professional services firms on the regulatory requirements for establishing firms/offices in Ireland across a range of professions.

 

THE TEAM

The Regulatory team, led by Stephen McLoughlin, Partner and Head of Regulatory, sits within the Dublin Commercial Disputes practice and works closely on cross-border matters with UK colleagues within our market-leading Global Investigations and Professional Practices Groups.

The team advises and acts on behalf of public and private sector Irish and international clients, including the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, and the Charities Regulator on a range of  regulatory areas, including :

  • Advising professional regulators in relation to all aspects of their functions, with a specific focus on the fitness to practise inquiry process;
  • Acting as legal assessor to a professional regulator in the performance of its functions;
  • Advising on professional regulatory investigations and complex issues concerning professional regulation;
  • Preparing draft secondary legislation on complex areas of professional regulatory law
  • Advising professional services firms on the regulatory requirements for establishing firms/offices in Ireland across a range of professions.

In addition, the Regulatory team in Dublin forms part of the firm's wider market-leading Professional Practices Group, which has extensive experience in advising regulated entities, such as law firms, accountancy practices and other professional practices on a range of regulatory issues, and the firm's market-leading Global Investigations Group, which has extensive experience in advising and acting in a wide range of inquiries, investigations and enforcement matters, across a diverse range of areas, including .

You will be joining an ambitious team and have significant input from the outset in supporting growth plans as well as a clear path to progress and develop your Regulatory practice

 

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE

  • Advising and acting for public sector regulators and private sector clients, including advising professional regulators on all aspects of their functions
  • Acting for professional regulators and/or private sector clients in professional misconduct inquiries and investigations, with a particular focus on healthcare inquiries.
  • Experience of health products regulation would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience in legislative drafting would be advantageous but not essential
  • Supporting and initiating activities to win new business and clients for the team and the firm
  • Help to manage key client relationships and represent the Firm confidently in pitches and external presentations.
  • Support the development of junior colleagues.

 

YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 5PQE + demonstrated experience gained within a comparable environment across contentious regulatory matters and non-contentious advisory work to both regulators and private sector clients. 
  • Strong experience in acting for professional regulators and/or private sector clients in professional misconduct inquiries and investigations, with a particular focus on healthcare inquiries
  • You'll be consultative and thorough in your approach
  • You will have the ability to engage and influence clients and be a confident stakeholder manager, both internally and externally.
